About Us-old – old – old

Introduction

Al Furqan Islamic Centre is located in one of Britain’s great modern cities, Manchester, which was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution, when wealth from textile mills and factories helped develop the city. Manchester is one of the most exciting places in the UK right now:

  • Characterised as the sporting capital of the UK – if not the world, home to Manchester United and Manchester City.
  • With more than 80,000 students, it has one of the largest single-campus university populations in Europe. As well as The University of Manchester, part of the elite Russell Group, this includes the well-respected Manchester Metropolitan University and Salford University.
  • Manchester is also among the top 20 local authorities in England and Wales with the highest percentage of Muslims – 15.8% (503,127), according to the latest United Kingdom Census (Office for National Statistics, 2011) – with clear evidence of growth since.

Al Furqan Islamic Centre is in the south-central of Manchester – North West, England – and serves an area with a high percentage of Muslim population, for which the immediate area dictates 34.0% Muslims. The Centre is youthful, diverse, energetic and bursting with the warmth of Islamic character.
